Downward dog, upward dog, cobra, sun salutations, tree pose, and savasana. Namaste everyone! If you are a budding yogi, these poses may be familiar to you. But if not, don’t fret! Whether you’re just starting out or want a little bit of guidance through your home practice, we have compiled ten of the top yoga apps for girls to help you find your inner zen yogi!
Daily Yoga: This app features over 500 yoga poses with instructions for more than 50 sessions with background music. As well, this app is extremely accessible and gives users the option to choose from three different intensity levels and various practice lengths. With this app you can even earn points for practicing!
Down Dog: This app is simple and beautifully laid out. With background music and a relaxing voiceover, this app has a model who demonstrates each of the poses as you go through your practice. What is nice about this app is that you have a lot of freedom to choose the level of your practice and because the sessions are in video format. This also means that you don’t have to stop between every pose to choose your next, making your practice more relaxing.
5 Minute Yoga: For people who are always on the go, this app is an excellent choice. With five minute yoga routines, it is easy to squeeze them into a busy schedule! The routines include photographs and descriptions to ensure you know how to properly do the pose.
Yoga Studio: What is awesome about this app is that it gives you the option to choose the level of class you would like to do. You can even schedule your yoga classes by syncing the app with your calendar to keep you organized and up-to-date with your practice. This app also features instructional advice about each pose to ensure your safety and that you get the most out of each pose.
YOGAmazing - Yoga Video App: While this app is paid, it is well worth it for the number of yoga lessons you get. However, it can be slightly confusing to navigate because it lacks organization and is hard to choose between a calming or energizing routine. If you are looking for a yoga app and the others didn’t make the cut, this one may be worth a try!
Yoga Poses: This app is good if you are just starting out and want to learn about each pose in depth. With each pose, the learner is given the benefits, when not to do the pose, instructions, tips for beginners, and tips for advanced yogis.
Asana Rebel: This app is a little bit different. Rather than traditional yoga, it integrates interval training for a more intense workout. The routines help tone and energize your body all while giving you a great stretch. The downside is that this app does not have everything available without a subscription fee.
My Yoga Guru: This is a very simple app with instructions for several yoga poses. This app is perfect for people who are wanting to cut straight to the chase and consume information about the poses they’re doing.
iYoga+: This is a great app for beginners and allows users to see the transitions between yoga poses by providing videos of sessions. However, a drawback of this app is the fact that it only has 8 set lessons with no option to get more.
Simply Yoga Free: This app acts as your personal trainer for Quick Yoga Workouts and is one of the most popular in the app store because it is easy to use and provides a full body workout. However, this app can be confusing at times for beginners because the voiceover and model are not always doing the same thing and the model does some of the poses incorrectly. If you are looking to learn or perfect your practice, this app is not for you, but it is awesome to see how full body yoga routines are sequenced.
It can be extremely tough doing yoga on your own, especially when you are first starting out. Without a teacher to guide you, you’re left to decide the best string of positions to put together yourself, which can be extremely overwhelming.
I would suggest trying a few of these apps before committing to one! Just remember to modify any poses based on your body or any personal injuries. Yoga is all about making you feel amazing, so always keep this in mind and make your practice your time.
